Seamus Heaney Homeplace
Signature Woodcraft have recently been selected to supply our products for the new Seamus Heaney Centre, Homeplace, in Bellaghy, Northern Ireland. We are honoured to have been successful along with 7 other local makers to supply the craft shop in the centre.
The centre is full of artefacts and other features from Seamus Heaney’s life and work. Alongside a Conway Stewart fountain pen, you will find his Duffle Coat and other pieces that celebrate him and his work. It is a great venue for inspiration and education and is accessible to all.
Seamus Heaney was one of the most celebrated poets of the 20th century, winning the Nobel Prize in 1995. One of his last published poems was a piece on the Conway Stewart pen that his parents bought him as a child. In this poem, he draws on his first encounter with the Conway, with the salesman showing him how to fill it from an ink bottle.
Signature Woodcraft have used this poem as a platform for the development of a special range of poems for Homeplace. We have created a range of luxury handmade fountain and rollerball pens using genuine Conway Stewart materials sourced from the company when it went bankrupt in 2014. The Conway Stewart Edition pens seek to celebrate the man, his writing instruments and his home country.
